Egyptian police bully human rights organisation (MECA) In the early hours of the morning on Wednesday the 8th of August,Egyptian State Security forces broke into the homes of and arrested two members of MECA, a human rights organization based in Canada and pending official registration in Egypt. Other members were targeted but are now in hiding. The SIS broke into the home of Dr. Adel Fawzy, Chairman of the budding organization in Egypt, searched his flat for incriminating evidence leaving a trail of destruction and taking away with them his laptop computer and the cover of a book the organization was in the process of publishing. They also broke into the home of Mr. Peter Izzat an, active member of the organization, also confiscating his computer. Dr. Fawzy was then led handcuffed and blindfolded into the police car and his whereabouts where not known until much later. Other members were under Police surveillance all day, one of the members said that he was being followed by a LADA car with License Plates 130942 Gizeh for more than three hours but he finally managed to get away from his stalker. Three members who are thought to have warrants for their arrest are in hiding but in constant contact with their colleagues. No charges have been made yet but it is thought the two members will be charged with engaging in missionary work, possession of controversial literature liaising with foreign organizations and embarking on activities that endanger State security, charges which usually entail heavy prison sentences. The group seems to have provoked the wroth of the Egyptian Police when they were investigating a case of grave transgression committed by Police personnel who by way of revenge broke into the home of a worker and murdered him by throwing him off a fourth floor balcony. The organization had taken it upon themselves to help victims of perceived blatant institutional discrimination by the government against defenseless sects of the population and campaigning to put an end to it In order to ensure that cases raised by this organization do not receive wide media coverage an attempt is always made to cover up the truth of the stories as certain newspapers completely misrepresent the truth. and in order to antagonise public opinion against MECA, the organisation is always portrayed wrongly as a Right Wing Christian . Some of the atrocities and malicious practices of the Egyptian Police came to public notice when bloggers managed to publish videos of torture and abuse of citizens on the hands of the Police. The M E C A is a Human rights organization founded by immigrant Christians from the Middle East to act as a voice for their folk in their homelands. The organization is based in Canada but attracts membership from immigrant communities the world over. They have a continuous forum in the form of a chat room and The Egyptian branch was in the process of being legally registered within the next few days, The authorities might have been looking for reasons to block the procedures Urgent action and support is needed to save the two people under arrest and those who are on the run from an immanent danger. Egyptian Police has had very bad press for its atrocious pratices against citizens since bloggers posted audio and video material showing incidents of torture and abuse on the hands of Police personnel.
